08.04.2014 · AbstractFor the past 10 years, a climate change course has been offered in a large Midwest university. This course has been focusing on improving college students' scientific knowledge of climate change and human interactions using historical evidence as well as improving their information literacy in science through a course project This review found a total of 383 climate change related courses offered by the 37 institutions. At least one climate change related course was found at 32 of the 37 institutions reviewed. Courses focused on climate change as a main topic (Tier 1) were found at 14 institutions (89 courses).
This 5 week course consists of 12 lessons. Course topics include the greenhouse effect, El Niño, ocean circulation, the science and politics of global warming and climate change impacts on California. All the reading, course material and assessments are on-line, there are no regularly scheduled class meetings: learn where and when you want! This course examines the climate change problem in terms of vulnerability and adaptation from primarily scientific, societal and policy perspectives. There is now a certain amount of unavoidable climate change, and therefore a need to adapt to these changing climatic conditions and their consequences.
